“I won't tell you that the world matters nothing, or the world's voice, or the voice of society. They matter a good deal. They matter far too much. But there are moments when one has to choose between living one's own life, fully, entirely, completely—or dragging out some false, shallow, degrading existence that the world in its hypocrisy demands. You have that moment now. Choose!”
~ Oscar Wilde

And then there is that point, long after you have chosen, where you choose again.  You are past choosing.  Were you chosen?  No, it's never so simple as that.  You choose again and again, but the choice is really no longer yours.  You are in deep now. Swimming in your choice.  The choice to live a certain way, which is not quite fully, entirely, completely, but as near to it as you can at present make it.  There have been intervals though, maybe three weeks together, and once there were two years.  So you know what it's like to live the way, exactly, you ought to be.  How tired you are, walking so close to the path you need to be on.  But at least you can see it, and at times, suddenly, you are on that path.  Break into a run, go for as long as possible.  You don't even know when, or how, you arrived back, beside.  Your hand outstretched to the leaves of the trees between those paths.  You walk, your hand in the water of leaves, trailing.

  1. I love your words. They inspire me today.

  2. This was just what I needed, today, too. Lovely picture, lovely post.
