what you really needed

“I still encourage anyone who feels at all compelled to write to do so. I just try to warn people who hope to get published that publication is not all it is cracked up to be. But writing is. Writing has so much to give, so much to teach, so many surprises. That thing you had to force yourself to do - the actual act of writing - turns out to be the best part. It's like discovering that while you thought you needed the tea ceremony for the caffeine, what you really needed was the tea ceremony. The act of writing turns out to be its own reward.”

Anne Lamott

Nothing has turned out today quite as planned.  The art gallery trip given over due to a broken vacuum cleaner. Still, teacups were borrowed, photos were taken.  That's something.

And then, coming across these words by Anne Lamott. The reminder that the writing really is the best part.

  1. These photos are stunning! I love the textures, the contrasts, the precariousness of it...the writer's life indeed.

  2. The last of these is quite stunning!
This china pattern is my mother's, so many memories twinged.

  3. What a perfect quote by Lamott. I agree. And I really must get my mother's Pettipoint set unpacked -- to honour her.
