the leaping greenly spirits

i thank You God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes

~ e.e. cummings

It's raining here this morning in Edmonton, the blossoms came out while we were away, and the green beginnings are now fully fledged.  A lot happens in a week.  What follows are photos of some of the nature-y photos I took in DC.  The blossoms were pretty much gone, but we knew that would be the case.   Still, we were pretty much thrilled to see all the greenery, all the flowers that we did see.  All the gorgeous trees.

There was a touch of a drizzle the first day we were there, but otherwise, lovely weather, almost too hot for us Northerners.

We could see the capital on the block over from our hotel.

The next one isn't too nature-y is it?

Below is the urban garden across from the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.

You can see bokeh-Chloe in this one.  There was an outdoor exercise area beside the urban garden.

This is outside the National Gallery:

And here are some shots of our hotel courtyard:

This is in front of the Natural History Museum.  The end of the rhododendrons, and with dino-bokeh-statue.

This is outside the Botanic Garden which is near the Capital building.  It was closed when we were there in the evening, but there was a lot of beautiful stuff out front and beside.

And this was on our walk home, quite a ways from the Botanic Garden, I swear.  We did not blow dandelion seeds into the garden.  : )

An outdoor cafe:

A huge expanse of purple in front of the government building across from our hotel:

And last but not least - the kitchen garden at the White House.  How cool is that?  Rather picturesque, I thought.

  1. Shawna, these are beyond loveliness--such a tonic in our howling blustery day here in Saskatchewan. So good to have you back within reach, too, though loved the postings you so kindly left. I have to say, though, that the kitchen garden for the White House looks a lot like the one we've just designed...but where are there edible flowers????

  2. And the grammar gods have just let me type "there" instead of "their"...that must be punishment for all the grading rage this year (errrrk)...apologies!

  3. Loved the pix. Pure loveliness. As I scrolled down, I thought I was going to be seeing Chloe in a blue dress, when in fact it was an umbrella.... It sort of looked like it could be her! The bokeh-Chloe her had me expecting her.
I wish I could have seen the Whitehouse garden with my own eyes! How cool!
