remember love

"What's the winter for?
To remember love."

- Theodore Roethke

"I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says - Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again."

- Lewis Carroll

The leaves in the mock orange bushes at the front of our house cradle the snow so lovingly. Yesterday walked around the neighbourhood rather than on the usual path near the highway. The sidewalks are somewhat treacherous - ice beneath snow. But I was happy for another snowfall, and today there will be more apparently. Near the end of January, and still so many leaves clinging to trees. The sky was so grey yesterday which I find works better for photographs - the minimal colours can be brought out more easily. In the photo below - notice the green in the bottom left of the frame. It seems a funny little miracle that a leaf could hold such colour in January.

  1. The "darlings" return a delicate hammock for the snow. Many little miracles. Thank you Shawna.

  2. It looks like a little hand holding a snowball! How completely adorable.
