the two most beautiful words

“Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.”

- Henry James

The pleasures of summer, the delights, near an end. The air this morning as I let the dog out was very cold, indeed. Our daughter registers for high school this Friday, though school doesn't begin until after the long weekend. Today we will begin to organize, or at least set our minds toward fall. Toward new beginnings. A little back to school shopping is in order, then. And with some luck, there will be ice cream.

“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.”

- John Steinbeck

  1. i have often visited here but never commented.
i love the title and the content of your blog.
i come here from Christie's blog
    'writing with light'.
i just want to say ...
    your daughter is amazingly beautiful.
she has the beauty of an old world painting... somehow mixed with the delightful quirkiness of an early molly ringwald.
i can see she very much has her own style. and it's priceless!
    please tell her of this.
sometimes in this chaotic competitive world they're growing up in...
well... it's nice to know that you already have your very special very own look!
    and that you're simply beautiful!
